The family of Ethel Janet Ramsey of Lexington Park Maryland is deeply saddened to announce that "Nan" as she was known to most, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2026 at the age of 78, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on July 4th, 1948, to Ethel Virginia David & George David in Forestville MD.
After graduating from Suitland High School, she worked for North American Van Lines, until she met and married Carey Bill Ramsey in 1967. Together they shared 59 wonderful years together, until her Husband Bill passed away in July of this year. Shortly after being wed, the two of them relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC for two years when her husband Bill was called up for Active Duty in the U.S. Air Force in 1968-1969. The couple later returned to Maryland after Bill’s unit was deactivated.
Together they settled in Dunkirk Maryland where they built a home, and raised two children, Andria Lynn Ramsey and Jonathan David Ramsey. Nan was always very active in her kid’s schools and was the Chairman of the Uniform committee for the Northern High School Patriot Marching band for 6 years. There she got to know all of the Band kids, many of whom would also call her “Mom”. Nan was very dedicated to helping kids with learning disabilities learn to read.
She was a volunteer with the Literacy Council of America, where she tutored several kids, and she also tutored several children from the neighborhood. After both of her children had graduated from high school and started College, Nan decided that it was time to fulfill one of her life long dreams, to obtains her own college degree, so she enrolled in college herself. She graduated from CSM in 1997 with a degree in accounting, and was recognized as the accounting student of the year.
Nan is preceded in death by her husband Bill Ramsey, parents George and Virginia David, and sister in-law Barbara David. She is survived by her daughter Andria Ramsey, son Jonathan Ramsey, daughter in-law Sandra Ramsey, sister Bonnie Eckrote, brother Bill David, brother Bob David, sister in-law Trish David, and granddaughter Chloe Ramsey, as well and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
