Mrs. Eva C. Smith, 92, of Fort Washington passed away September 23, 2023. 

Eva was born April 9, 1931 in Tallahassee, FL to the late Gideon and Alice Clack.  Mrs. Smith was an English major and proud graduate of Florida A&M College, Class of 1953. Mrs. Smith married her college sweetheart, Col Otto B. Smith (RET USA), traveled with him throughout his 30 years in the U.S. Army.  Mrs. Smith taught English and Geography in Charles and Prince Georges’s County, Maryland, retiring to travel, visiting friends and family and care for her husband. Mrs. Smith was an active member of Florida A&M University Alumni Washington DC Chapter, enjoying the Back-to-School Sendoff, for students in the area, who would be attending FAMU, located in Tallahassee FL. Mrs. Smith faithfully participated in Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC) 5th Sunday Potluck dinner. Mrs. Smith enjoyed attending PGPSRA (retired teachers) meetings, and seeing old friends throughout her retirement years.  

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her loving husband Otto B. Smith.

She is survived by her children, Keith B. Smith (Genora), Fort Washington MD;  Dayna F. Smith, Centreville VA and Randall E. Smith, Cheltenham MD; two adoring Granddaughters (Bernard) Keisha G. Dzata, Atlanta GA and Kayla R. Smith, LaPlata MD; a Great Granddaughter Sophia Noelle Dzata, Atlanta GA; Sisters Clara Herndon, Tallahassee FL and Geneva Lois Feguson, Miami, FL; Niece Fanita F. Horne, Miami, FL; Brother-in-Law Robert Lee Brown, Jacksonville FL and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held in honor and celebration of Eva's life 11:00am-12:00pm Tuesday October 3, 2023 at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Rd. Clinton, MD 20735, where a funeral service will follow at 12:00pm. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
