It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Virginia Bass, a beloved mother, cherished friend, and dedicated professional, who left this world on March 28, 2026, one day before her 99th birthday. Evelyn was born on March 29, 1927, in Washington, DC, and spent her life in service to others, most notably as a Computer Assistant at the Census Bureau, where she contributed significantly to her community for many years.
Evelyn was deeply loved by her family, including her four children, Dolores Blankenship (Dale), Joseph W. Tolson (Barbara), Robert M. Tolson (deceased), Larry S. Tolson (deceased), her six grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. In addition to her passion for her work, Evelyn was known for her warmth, her kindness, and her unwavering support for those around her. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people and touched the lives of many with her gracious spirit.
To honor Evelyn’s life and her many contributions, family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate the life of this remarkable woman, sharing memories and stories that reflect her loving nature and lasting impact. Evelyn Virginia Bass will be eternally remembered and missed by all who knew her. She will be especially missed by her cat, Puddy. May her spirit find peace as she is laid to rest at Washington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Evelyn, as she would have loved to continue her legacy of caring and support for others.
Rest in peace, dear Evelyn. Your love and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those you have left behind.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mabel Dillard, her brother Charles E. Dillard, her sister Doris “Dockie” Throckmorton, and two sons Robert M. and Larry S. Tolson.
