Francis Harley

June 22, 1940 — December 27, 2025

On Saturday, December 27, 2025, Francis Wendell Harley (Buddy) transitioned into the arms of God our Father in Heaven at the age of 85. Buddy was born on June 22, 1940, to the late Wallace and Margret Harley in Southern Maryland where he was raised. Buddy didn’t need a lot of fancy words to make his point known. He was a man of his word, who lived every single day like it was his last. On Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Autumn Lake Nursing home, God our Father in Heaven peaceably picked his flower to plant in the Masters Bouquet for the heavenly garden. Buddy was a heavy equipment operator and heavily involved in his union. He could ride in a neighborhood and show you where his helping hands helped to build that community. He could fix anything and if not, he knew someone who could. Buddy believed in the dignity of hard work, honesty, morals and values, loyalty and taking care of his family. If you were riding during the day in Prince George’s County, Maryland and saw a Bobcat on a construction site, more than likely it was him sitting in the operator’s seat. Buddy was unapologetically himself and would truly let you know where you stood with him, through his bluntness, and honesty. One known fact about Buddy is if he accepted you in his circle, he gave you a nickname that only he will call you by and he never forgot the nickname he gave. It was his way of saying “I see you, and you’re part of the crew’, (Do you remember the nickname Buddy gave you).Buddies greatest build was his family; he is survived by: Beverly Harley (Wife), Alan Harley (Son), Tiya Harley (Granddaughter), Kenneth (Chico) Harley Jr. (Grandson), Kennedie Ingram (Great-Granddaughter), CharLee Robertson-Harley (Great-Granddaughter), Gloria (Stumpy) Newman (Sister), Janet Vaughan (Sister-in-Law), Gina Vaughan (Sister-in-Law), and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Buddy was proceeded in death by Kenneth (Chico) Harley Sr. (Son), Madlene Harley (Sister), Patsy Chapman (Sister), Harold Harley (Brother), Osie Harley (Brother), John Harley (Brother), Shorty Harley (Brother), and Gregory Vaughn (Brother-in-Law) Special acknowledgement to Damian Chapman (Nephew), for assuring the wellbeing of Buddy while he was a resident of Autumn Lake Nursing Home. Buddy Harley didn’t do anything halfway, he worked hard, he loved his family fiercely, and he spoke his mind without apology. As we look around Prince Georges County and see the family and communities he built, the lives he touched, we know that his part was well done and he has given the torch to us to continue what he started and the legacy he built. Our nicknames will last forever in our hearts
