Helen Estelle Lagundo

Helen "MOM" E. LangundoHelen was known as "MOM" to almost everyone with whom she came in contact.In her younger days, she moved to Red Lake, MN where her husband had a government position with the B.I.A. Agency. During this time, Helen was a homemaker. They resided there for 12 years and then returned to Washington, D.C.Helen continued caring for her family and later worked as a Manager in a Washington, D.C. Department store. She traveled extensively in Asia, Europe and the United States. Upon the death of her husband, she accpeted a job as a housekeeper for Fr. Thomas Meyer. She was with him since the early 70's. The Parishes in the Diocese of St. Cloud that she worked were: St. Anthony's Holy Angels in St. Cloud, MN; St. Michael's Parish in Buckman, MN; St. Ann's Parish in Wadena, MN and St. John the Baptist Parish in Swanville, MN. She held these positions during a period of 30 years.Due to incapacities the last few years, she moved to Fish Trap Lake in Cushing, MN with her daughter, Romona.Many honors have been bestowed on Helen during her lifetime. She was the recipient of the Benemerenti Medal given to her by Pope John Paul, II.Her husband preceded her in death on September 18, 1968 as well as two grandchildren, Joseph Lagundo and Marc Messerich. She is survived by a son, Raymond Lagundo, Jr. of Lusby, MD and daughters, Edith Messerich of Waite Park, MN, Mary Arpin of Palm Bay, FL and Ramona Lagundo of Cushing, MN plus numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. John the Baptist Parish in Swanville, MN on Monday, August 6, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will take place one hour prior to Mass.
