Helen Jeanette Von Soosten

Helen Jeanette von Soosten, 90, of Huntingtown, died on June 26, 2025, at Solomons Nursing Center in Solomons. She was born September 26, 1934 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Beatrice and Daniel Wardrip. In 1941, she was welcomed into the loving home of Rudolph and Ella Kroenke of Hepler, Kansas. Helen was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hepler and graduated from Hepler High School in 1952. She was a member of Saint Nicholas Lutheran Church in Huntingtown at the time of her passing.

Helen married Arnold von Soosten on June 5, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Helen and Arnold lived in a variety of cities over the years with Arnold’s job, including Fort Worth, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; Baltimore, Maryland; Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Sunnyvale, California; and Alamogordo, New Mexico, returning in retirement to Girard, Kansas. In Girard, they attended Trinity Lutheran Church. After Arnold’s passing in July, 2021, Helen moved to Huntingtown to reside with her daughter, Pamela Werner.

Helen enjoyed reading, gardening, and long walks. She had a beautiful singing voice, and enjoyed musicals and singing along with the radio.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Pamela, and her husband John; daughter-in-law, Carol von Soosten, of Belleville, Illinois; grandson Paul von Soosten, and his wife, Leah; and grandsons Kyle and Nicholas Werner, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, her son Mark von Soosten, her brothers Bill Wardrip, Cleo Wardrip, Don Wardrip, Bobby Wardrip, and sisters Betty McQuerry and Juanita Martens.

The funeral service for Helen will be held at Saint Nicholas Lutheran Church, 1450 Plum Point Road, Huntingtown, MD 20639, on July 12, 2025, at 11 am. The presiding minister will be Brother Kenneth Taylor, OLF. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Hepler, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League or Saint Nicholas Lutheran Church.
