Jack Richard Downing

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dad, whose love, strength and kindness had an impact on all who knew him.

He was wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a hard worker, working sometimes 2 jobs to provide for his family. When he wasn’t spending time with his family he loved to garden and fish as well as travel with his wife Audrey around the United States in their R.V. and wintering in Florida.

Later in life his favorite past time was sitting on his swing smoking a cigar with Max at his side.

He is survived by his 5 children; Debbie Dugan (Danny), Judy Blecker (Alan), Susan Spalding (Timmy), John Downing (Donna) and Jimmy Downing. His 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who will forever carry his memory in their hearts and in the lessons he leaves behind.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the lives he nurtured, the love he gave, and the gardens that will continue to grow in his memory.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1601 W. Mount Harmony Road, Owings, MD 20736 on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 10155 Ward Road, Dunkirk, MD 20754.
