James "Jimmy" Leo Horstkamp

James Leo Horstkamp “Jimmy” of Calvert County, MD passed away peacefully at the Hermitage Assisted Living Facility in Solomons, MD at the age of 85.

He was born on August 4, 1938 and lived in the Brookland neighborhood of NE Washington DC until joining the Air Force in 1957. He was trained as an aircraft jet engine mechanic and was assigned to the 823 Combat Support Group in Homestead, Florida.

After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Washington DC where he worked as a Pressman. He met his loving wife, life partner and eternal angel, Rebecca Ann Rothgeb “Becky” soon after and they married in February 1962. They raised 2 sons (Michael and Kevin) and lived in Arlington VA until they moved to their favorite weekend destination at the Bay, Breezy Point Beach, in 1976. Together they were involved in community activities, boating and always some type of family function. Family was always the highest priority.

Jimmy and Becky retired in 2000, then in 2006 moved to Ocean View, Delaware where they lived until Becky passed in December 2007. He moved back to Calvert County in 2016.

Jimmy was very much a “people person”. He never met a stranger. He was extremely confident thus always the life of the party. He retained his outgoing personality until his passing on September 28, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years (Rebecca Ann Horstkamp - Becky/Grammy/Yia Yia), Sisters Patricia and Donna, Brothers Bill, Tommy and Bobby and parents Nicholas William Horstkamp and Annie Virginia [McCreary].

He is survived by his sons; Michael Brian Horstkamp and James Kevin Horstkamp [Debbie]. Grandchildren; Sarah Williams [Chris], Jacob Horstkamp [Kerry], Katlyn Horstkamp, Evan Horstkamp and Margaret “Maggie” Horstkamp. Great-Grandchildren; Oliver Horstkamp and Thea Horstkamp and brother Joe and sisters Debbie, Mary and Gerri.

The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane Owings, MD 20736 on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm where a Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens Cemetery 10155 Ward Road Dunkirk, MD 20754.
