John Marcellus Moore

John Marcellus Moore was born on June 3, 1941, in Ahoskie, North Carolina to the late Ruby Mae Raynor (Moore) and Clinton Roosevelt Moore, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother Clinton Roosevelt Moore, Jr.; his aunts Sarah Moore and Nancy Moore.

John accepted Christ at an early age at Calvary Baptist Church located in Ahoskie, North Carolina and graduated from the Robert Lee Vann high school in June 1960.He immediately joined the United States Air Force where he served for 30 years, obtaining Chief Master Sergent, the highest rank of a non-commissioned officer. He was also awarded various unit Medals of Meritorious Service and accommodations as well as certificates of valor and achievement.

John saw tours of duty in the United States, Middle East, Europe and Southeast Asia. It was during his tour of duty in Omaha, Nebraska that he rededicated his life to His Lord and Saviour. John became and loyal and Faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He retired from the Air Force in June 1990 and returned to work for the Federal Government as a civilian employee at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) for 12 years, retiring from Federal service in June 2002.

John had a strong commitment to serve God and had a servant’s heart and a deep love for the people of God; John would go after anyone that he thought was falling away from faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Although small in stature, he was a giant in faith! he was an encourager, a giver, a strong shoulder to lean on, someone easy to talk to and would guard secrets told to him. He had a big heart for people, especially the men of Evangel – with passion. He always tried to bring out the best in others.

In 2005, he was licensed and ordained as a Pastor and joined the staff as Pastoral Care Pastor at Evangel Assembly. He served in the capacity of Pastor over Men’s Ministries, Altar Counselors/Prayer ministries, Hospital/Nursing Home Ministries, New Members/Visitors Ministries, Usher/Hostess/Communion Mins. Pastor John served with commitment, passion and Faithfulness. He Was a Faithful Minister.

John remained on staff until 2010 and retired due to health challenges, he remained as volunteer over our Men’s Ministries Department however he subsequently turned the ministry over to Pastor Vince Bonner.

John transitioned from this life to the presence of Jesus on Saturday, July 25, at 10:30 pm. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Tyner (Moore); daughters Amy Elizabeth (McKinney); Juliet Marcia Moore (Michaels); and JoAnna Moore, brother Michael Moore, Sister N Law; Laura Moore. Grandchildren: Markel Steward, Christopher Michaels, Travis Michaels; Tiffany Reed, Cary Reed, Jr., Alan Jones, and Tyrell Jones and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pastor John was a much loved and cared for man. His legacy of kindness, hope and encouragement will live on. He Is and Will be deeply loved and missed.
