Joseph Clifton Acton Jr.

August 16, 1950 — November 22, 2022

Joseph Clifton Acton Jr. (Joe) of Deale, Maryland passed away peacefully at his home on November 22, 2022. He was 72.

Born August 16, 1950, he was the son of Joseph Clifton Acton Sr. and Rose Delores Acton, deceased.

Joe attended Glen Burnie High School and later graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in English, minor in Archeology.

Joe spent most of his career as a civil servant with the Federal Government, first with a lengthy stint at Occupational Health and Safety and later at the Environmental Protection agency as a manager of technology programs. He worked with many wonderful people at each agency who remained his friends for the rest of his life.

Joe moved with his family from Silver Spring to Deale Maryland in 1990. There, he made many new friends and enjoyed fishing on his boat, crabbing, and hiking in the many wonderful area parks. He loved reading, music, hiking and camping, and exploring every back road he happened to venture upon. He had a warm and generous spirit, sharp wit, and was a person you wanted on your Trivial Pursuit team. Joe loved cats, babies, eating Maryland blue crabs, and the Grateful Dead. He adored his grandchildren and they adored their PopPop.

Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Acton; sons Brian and Lewis Acton; daughter in law Shannon Acton; grandsons Maxwell and Dillon Acton; Aunt Annette Hayes; and beloved inlaws Mike and Susie Sorrells; John and Marla Sorrells; Tim and Chris Sorrells; Andrea and Frank Eason; Dennis Sorrells; Jeff and Janet Sorrells; and Jacquie and David Weed.
