It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Leland Shutz, who joined his beloved wife, Carol Lee Shutz, in heaven on March 16, 2023. He was born on October 12, 1950, in York, Pennsylvania to parents Julius Preston and Carrie Shutz. He is survived by his three children, Matthew Shutz, Amanda (Andrew) Brune, Kara (Casey) Wisniewski and his almost five grandchildren, Ava, Mason, Keagan, Cale and new baby due on their anniversary, August 19th. He is also survived by his sister Susan Winterbottom (Allen), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joseph was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. He and Carol had been married for 49 years, and their love for each other was evident to everyone who knew them. Together, they built a life on the water in Maryland, where Joseph loved to be outdoors and spend time with his family.
Grampa Joe or Joe, as he was affectionately called, was a simple man with a big heart and infectious laugh. He attended Old Dominion University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. After graduation, he began his career at Calvert Cliffs and stayed until he retired. He was a man of many talents, with a passion for engineering and DIY home projects. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or build and took great pride in all the things he did. Especially if he was building something for one of his grandkids.
We will always cherish the memories we shared with Dad, and we take comfort in knowing that he and Mom are together again, watching over us from above.
