Joyce Lynn Madison

Joyce Lynn (Lyles) Madison, age 78, of Lusby, MD, passed away peacefully after a hard fought battle with cancer on August 8, 2025 with her family by her side in Huntingtown.

She was born in Gastonia, NC in 1947 to James and Cecilia Lyles. Joyce lived in Alexandria, VA before moving to Maryland where she attended Surrattsville Senior High. She graduated in 1965 and was married in 1966. She moved to Arizona but returned to Maryland where she had a 36-year career working for the federal government. After 11yrs at the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture she transferred to the U.S. Dept. of Justice where she retired in 2003 to be a full-time grandma.

Joyce loved being with her family and celebrating with them on their birthdays, the holidays and any time she could. Joyce cherished the relationship she had with her nephew Cameron and would visit him in Virigina Beach frequently. Joyce enjoyed many activities such as reading, writing and Mexican food. But her finest role was that of grandmother. Nothing made her happier. After retiring, Joyce volunteered at Huntingtown Elementary from 2008 to 2013. She enjoyed watching her granddaughter play soccer and cheer for HYC and later at HHS. Her truest attribute was the love she shared with her family, who she cherished.

Joyce is survived by her son, Darrin Madison along with his wife, Wendy, granddaughter, Grace Madison of Huntingtown, Maryland, her sister, Katie Heistand, husband, John and nephew, Cameron Tapley of Virginia Beach, VA and several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her 5 brothers Denny, Jim, Steve, Mike, and Patrick.

A small celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Chesapeake Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
