Obituary for Joyce Lynn Thompson

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Joyce Lynn Thompson, who departed this life on November 25, 2025, in Temple Hills, Maryland. Born on October 9, 1953, in Charleston, West Virginia, Joyce lived a life marked by strength, grace, dedication, and an unwavering love for her family and community.

Joyce was the beloved daughter of Evergreen Shelton Jones and Cephus Black, who nurtured in her the values of compassion, resilience, and kindness that she carried throughout her life. She grew up in Charleston, attending Riverview Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and Charleston High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for her future. Joyce continued her education at Garnet Career Center and West Virginia Career College, always striving to expand her knowledge and better herself.

A hardworking and devoted professional, Joyce built a long and successful career, retiring after years of service with Rhone-Poulenc-Union Carbide, Bayer, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she was honored with an award celebrating over 15 years of dedicated service. Her commitment, reliability, and quiet leadership earned her the respect and affection of colleagues and friends alike.

Above all, Joyce's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to her daughters, Frances Thompson and Tamara Thompson, whose lives were forever brightened by her guidance and unconditional support. Her heart expanded even more with the arrival of her cherished grandson, Ayden Henry Thompson-Sterling, who brought her immeasurable pride and happiness.

Joyce's life was also deeply intertwined with her siblings, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers Johnnie Jones, Clarence Jones, and Cecil Jones, and her sisters Lucille Burrells, Helen Howard, Nancy Duigid, and Maryann Black. Their shared memories, laughter, and steadfast bonds enriched Joyce's life in countless ways.

Those who knew Joyce will remember her warm smile, her generous spirit, and her quiet strength-qualities that touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She was a woman who loved deeply, worked diligently, and lived faithfully. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, her friends, and all whose lives were blessed by her presence.

Joyce Lynn Thompson will be profoundly missed, yet her memory will remain a guiding light and a source of comfort to all who loved her.

May she rest in eternal peace.
