Joyce Yvonne Williams

September 19, 1944 — May 3, 2026

Joyce Y. Williams, born September 19, 1944, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, at the age of 81.

She was a woman of strength, grace, style, and character-a woman of deep faith who loved Jesus and was known for her enduring love of family, resilience, and kindness. A devoted mother and a caretaker to many in her Northeast Washington, DC neighborhood, Joyce had a giving spirit that extended far beyond her home.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially seafood, and was a skilled handywoman who was never afraid to use her tools. Joyce also possessed a creative gift for sewing and designing clothing, bringing imagination and care to everything she made including growing her own  vegetables, flowers and plants. She often said, "I can show you better than I can tell you," and encouraged others with her belief that all things are possible if you believe and keep faith in God-words her children continue to live by.

She is lovingly survived and remembered by her children: Gregory (Sabrina), James (Cathy), Denise and Gladys; her grandchildren: Symone, Terrence, Romero, Danielle and Trinity; and her great-granddaughter, Alyx. She is also survived by her former husband, James D. Williams; her devoted cousin, Karen, along with a host of family members who will continue to honor her legacy through the values she lived by every day. Lastly her beloved friends, Ann Banks of Hampton, VA, Jannie Campbell of Washington, DC, Grace Garland of Buffalo, NY. and the late Blue Sayles who remained dear to her memory.

In accordance with her wishes, no formal funeral or public memorial will be held. Family and close loved ones will honor her privately, and her remains will be laid to rest in a manner meaningful to them.

Family and friends are invited to share memories, poems, and reflections with the family as part of a tribute being created in her honor.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
