On February 20, 1950, Karen Diane Long was born to Garland Garfield Long Sr and Gussie Elaine Perkins Long in Clifton Forge Virginia. In her early childhood she lived in Charleston, West Virginia until her father’s sudden death. After her father’s death, the family moved to Washington DC where she attended school until graduation in 1968.
She attended the university of District of Columbia and worked for private industry from 1968 until 1973 when she entered the Federal Government and worked in the Finance division of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) until retirement in 2011.
While working at OPM, she met and married William Arthur Quander in 1977. Together they raised three daughters, Latrece, Nakisha, and Ayanna. She also helped raise and babysit her grandchildren, Zariah, Zion, Zuri, Donovan, Mekhi, Lyric, and Liam.
She loved her family and loved to help people. She enjoyed working with crafts and decorating.
She leaves behind many loved ones, spouse, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all too numerous to name.
She leaves a legacy of God’s love to all who knew her.
