Lary Jeffries Fitzgerald

January 13, 1942 — October 22, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lary Jeffries Fitzgerald, aged 81, on October 22, 2023, in Lewes, Delaware. Lary was born on January 13, 1942, in Takoma Park, Maryland, to his loving parents, Roy and Maizie Fitzgerald (Hooper). He was a graduate of Bladensburg High School and Montgomery Junior College.

On July 1, 1961, Lary married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Patricia Lee Moxley. Together, they created a beautiful family and raised two wonderful sons, Darrell and Mark, while residing in Upper Marlboro and later Owings, Maryland.   Lary and Pat eventually relocated to Lewes, Delaware in 2010.

Lary dedicated his professional life to Fitzgerald and Company, a family-owned commercial and residential drywall contracting company that spanned three generations. This company was founded by his father upon his return from WWII, and Lary carried on the legacy with unwavering dedication.

Beyond his professional achievements, Lary was a devoted husband, father, and friend. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to his life, and he cherished every moment watching them participate in sports and various activities. Lary had a deep passion for music, dancing, classic cars, and enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family while also extending a helping hand to those in need. He was a lifelong member of Lions Clubs International, initially in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and later in Lewes, Delaware.  For more than 30 years Lary was also an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Upper Marlboro.

Survived by his wife of 62 years, Pat; sons Darrell (Dawn) of Prince Frederick, Maryland, and Mark (Kim) of Lewes, Delaware; six grandchildren—Chloe (Ryan) Cathro, Madison(fiancé Kolby), Grace, Gabrielle, Blake and Ainsley Fitzgerald; two great grandchildren—Vivi and Callahan Cathro; brothers Gary (Linda), Mike (Nancy), Dennis (Janice) Fitzgerald and sister Maureen (Jack) Wells; sister-in-law Becky (Joe) Hoppa and brother-in-law Ronald (Marianna) Moxley; lifelong friends Brent and Debbie Herr.
