Leon Joseph Goode, a proud United States Air Force veteran, was born on July 10, 1934, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, in Waldorf, Maryland. 

After graduating from Washington High School in Raleigh, Leon answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. His military career was marked by dedication, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. He completed extensive professional military education, including Supply Technical Training Schools, Air Force Instructor Training, the USAF Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Academy, and numerous United States Air Force Extension Institute courses. Leon served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant prior to his retirement in 1981.

In addition to his military service, Leon valued education and personal growth. He earned a Master’s degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University, a Bachelor’s degree in Business General Administration, and an Associate’s degree in General Studies from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. 

After his military service, Leon made his home in Clinton, Maryland, where he built a life centered on family, service, and integrity. He was employed by the District of Columbia Government as Chief of the Materials Management Branch at DC General Hospital, and as Head of Inventory Management, National Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress by the Federal Government. Later, Leon worked as a Census Information Manager at the Suitland Federal Center.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis Goode, Sr. and Delia Harmon Goode; his beloved wife, Shirley Goode; and his siblings, James Lewis Goode, Jr., Frederick Thomas Goode, Sr., Maxine Delia Goode, and Paul Lawrence Goode.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Donald L. Goode (Elizabeth), Steven Goode (Ivy), Denise Goode, and Diane Goode Green. Additionally, Leon was a devoted grandfather to eleven and blessed with eleven great-grandchildren.

Leon Joseph Goode will be remembered for his honorable service to his country, his dedication to education, and his deep love for his family. His legacy of strength, leadership, and compassion will live on in all who knew and loved him.
