Linda Ann Shoemaker, age 65, of Dunkirk MD passed away 08 February 2021 along with her cherished dog Chuy lil Nugget. Linda lived her entire life in the Washington DC area. She was born 08 September 1955 in Cheverly, MD to the late Mary Edith (Seabolt) and Aubrey Emil Grethe. Linda graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1973. After graduation, she started work as an account clerk with Giant Food, where she worked for over 12 years. During this time she fell in love and married Larry Eugene Shoemaker on 22 July 1978. A small home in Hyattsville, MD is where the couple started their family. They welcomed their first child, Christine Lorraine, on 09 May 1980. A second child, Larry Eugene Shoemaker, Jr., followed on 10 January 1983. The family moved to the town of Dunkirk, MD in August of 1984. Dunkirk had remained Linda’s home for the past 36 years. Linda held many roles in her life, including stay at home mother and home maker. She spent time as a licensed child care provider, a receptionist and an administrative assistant. She was also an intake specialist for over 10 years with the State of Maryland, in the Office of the Public Defender. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved taking care of her two dogs (Chuy and Gizmo), drinking iced tea, watching her television shows, reading, shopping, vacationing, sun-bathing at the pool or beach, and numerous other activities. She was a kindhearted person who would always lend a hand to others in need. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, sibling (Gay), beloved husband (Larry Eugene Shoemaker, Sr.), and dear sweet grandson (Parker Eugene Shoemaker). Linda is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christine Lorraine Shoemaker and Brett Robert Carter; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Eugene and Melissa Anne Shoemaker; two granddaughters, Ava Catherine Carter and Scarlett Jane Shoemaker. She is also survived by siblings Arthur Grethe, David Grethe, and Billie Rowland, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, 20 February 2021 (10 am – 1 pm) at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane Owings, MD 20736. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Hospice through their website (https://calverthospice.org/make-a-gift/). NEW GUIDELINES FOR ATTENDING VISITATION / SERVICES. - 50 to 75 people max at any given time in Funeral Home. - Limit visitation to 15 minutes in visitation room to allow for others to express their condolences. - Funeral Services in Chapel limited to 70 people with four (4) people per pew. - Masks and six foot social distancing still applies.
