Lois Jean Franks

March 28, 1947 — January 17, 2024

Lois Jean Franks, age 76, adoring wife to husband Jerry and loving mother to daughters Tracy and Kelley, passed away peacefully at home on the 17th of January after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Lois was born in 1947 in Pennsylvania and was raised in Forestville, Maryland. She grew up spending summers with her sisters and cousins on her grandparents' farm and was always surrounded by her family. Lois met her husband Jerry on a blind date in college in February 1967. Knowing it was true love, they were married 9 months later. In 1977, Jerry and Lois moved to Dunkirk, lovingly known as the land of cows and trees, where they raised their family. They had an open door policy where everyone was welcome. “The door is unlocked, come on in,” is what she would say. Everyone was family.

Lois's hospitality and generosity extended far beyond the four walls of her home. Whether she was baking chocolate chip cookies or making lasagna for Jerry's football players, selling concessions at the games, or sewing costumes for the musicals at the local high school, she always did it with a contagious smile and a joyful heart. She was a selfless woman who always sought to serve others before herself, many times providing a home for friends and loved ones when they needed it. Above all, she loved Jesus with all her heart and shared that love with everyone. For years, she hosted a Bible study in her home and she had a vision for a church in Calvert County. Through fervent prayer with some dear friends in Christ, they began the church that is now known as Calvert Grace Community Church.

Lois is survived by her husband Jerry; daughter and son-in-law Tracy and Dale Case; daughter and son-in-law Kelley and Mark Solsman; sister Winona Lagana; grandchildren Kayla Groce, Marina Jackson, Jeremy Solsman, and Rachel Solsman; great-grandchildren Luca Groce, Charlee Groce, and Cali Jackson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Jean Curtis, and her sister Debbie Curtis.
