Lonnie James Johnson, better known as "LJ", of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at the age of 65.
Lonnie was born to parents Clyde Johnson, Jr. and Harriette Pothuisje on December 29, 1959 in Lafayette, Indiana. He grew up in Battle Ground, IN and then St. Petersburg, FL before enlisting in the Army. Lonnie was stationed at Fort Myer, VA Army Base as a fifer with the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. Lonnie served in the Army for 25 years, retiring in 2006. He also completed his Bachelor's degree of Business Management from the University of Phoenix.
Lonnie was an avid fisherman from a young age making him very knowledgeable and experienced, especially on the Chesapeake Bay. He started his business LJ's Light Tackle where he was a charter captain, while developing his well-known fishing lure, the G-Eye Jig. He created the jig and other fishing lures with the goal of catching a diverse species of fish throughout all of the seasons. Lonnie's mission while fishing was to form lasting memories with his family, friends, and clients- mission accomplished.
Lonnie married his best friend and the love of his life, Alcione "Cione" Johnson, September 15, 1989. Together they raised three daughters and one son. He cared for Cione during her battle against stage IV ovarian cancer, which took her life in 2019. Lonnie was hard-working, selfless, and dedicated his life to his family and friends. He was always present for life's most joyous moments, most difficult moments, and everything in between. He was the one person you could always count on.
Lonnie is survived by his parents, Clyde and Carolyn Johnson; his son, Brandon (Megan) Johnson; his daughters, Christina (David) Ferguson, Monica (Adam) King, and Rebecca (Tyler) Spiker; his grandchildren, Kyla, Marlee, Reina, Tala, Logan, Brody, James and Ashleigh; and siblings, Carrie Johnson, Connie Lehnerer, and Laura Roberts. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alcione; his mother, Harriette; and his brother, Edward Johnson.
