Lucy Mary (Brunetto) Schuler, 94, of Huntingtown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026.
Lucy was born on February 28, 1932, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Mary (Wojciechowski) Brunetto and Charles Brunetto. She attended Reading High School, and after graduating, began working at John Hancock Life Insurance Company.
Lucy met Bernard Schuler in 1952, and the two were married on September 18, 1954. They moved to Virginia while Bernie served in the Army and began raising a family together. Over the years they moved several times — Arlington, Virginia, Falls Church, Virginia, and Laurel, Maryland — before settling in Rockville, Maryland, where they lived for 35 years. As part of their retirement plan, Lucy and Bernie moved to Huntingtown, Maryland, near Chesapeake Bay, where they have lived ever since.
Lucy will be remembered for her love of knitting, crocheting, cooking, and baking. She was an avid and excellent bowler for over 60 years and even convinced Bernie to join her on the lanes after his retirement. More than anything, Lucy loved caring for her family. She delighted in hosting family gatherings and cooking for everyone, and she helped care for many of her grandchildren from an early age, providing daily daycare for several of them and loving every minute of it.
Lucy was predeceased by her sister, Mary Jane (Brunetto) Gromis. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Bernard Schuler; her children, Cindy Turlington (John) of Silver Beach, Virginia, Karl Schuler (Angie) of St. Leonard, Maryland, Sharon Haley (Peter) of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Kevin Schuler (Jean) of North Potomac, Maryland; along with 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A public visitation will be held on August 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at Lee funeral home Calvert, followed by another opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects on August 18, 2026, pending time, followed by a mass to celebrate Lucy's life pending time at Jesus the Divine Word Catholic Church, 885 Cox Road, Huntingtown, Maryland 20639, immediately followed by a luncheon.
