Lynne Ellen Lau Born December 28, 1943 in Buffalo, NY went home to be with her Lord on August 29, 2025 She is predeceased by parents Elbert and Helen Rosen, her mother and father in-law William F. Sr and Margaret Lau, her Sister and Brother in law Martha and Larry Kastner, Brother in laws, John Lau, William F Lau Jr. and Richard Helms. Survived by her loving husband of over 60 years Robert Lau, her Son David Lau (Becky), Her Daughter Diana Fereday (Derek), grandchildren J.D., Tyler (Maranda), Alec, Lindsay and Ethan. Also survived by her Sister in Laws Peggy Helms and Gloria Lau and brother in law Richard Lau (Carol), 7-nieces and 14 nephews. As well as her lifelong friends Nancy Travers (dec Sonny), Mary Ellen Shadid (dec John), Fil and Bill Cates, and Ken Sichel.
Lynne spent her early childhood in East Auroa, NY where her Mom and Dad had grown up. By the time she was in Junior High School, she moved to Maryland and that is where she met her lifelong friends. While attending Oxon Hill High School she met her husband. After graduating High School Lynne started working for the Federal Gov't. She began her career at the Pentagon as a GS2. In 1965 she married the love of her life Robert and shortly after he left for RAF Chicksands England. Lynne soon joined him in England, where they lived for 2-years and welcomed their son. After moving back to the states, she began working for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration on Developmental Disabilities as a secretary. She worked her way up to a Program Specialist and retired as a GS13. She received recognition in 1990 for her report to Congress which was recognized nationally as a powerful document to improve the independence and productivity of persons with disabilities. In 1993 she received a Governor's Citation from William Donald Shaffer for her outstanding and exemplary service for her contributions to the work of the Maryland State Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities. She retired on a Friday in 2000 and that following Monday began looking after her grandson, Alec.
Lynne and Robert enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Belles and Boots Square Dancing Club in Camp Springs, MD for many years . She enjoyed scrapbooking often creating books and personalized cards for her grandchilden, crocheting. reading, writing poems and short stories, and word searches. She would often make scarfs and hats as gifts and donations to the church. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family often playing cards and dominoes. Many of her weekends were busy spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed family vacations to Bethany Beach with her sister and her family, and the Bi-Annual Rosen Family Reunions.
Lynne's warm smile and gentle spirit were a blessing to all who knew her. Her memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends. If you prefer Please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Lynne's memory.
