Mamie Louise Jones

November 23, 1942 — January 26, 2022

Mamie "Louise" Jones passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. She was born on November 23, 1942 in Lunenburg County, VA to Ovetta L. Staples and George Washington Staples. She spent her teenage years balancing schoolwork at Lunenburg High School and helping raise her siblings. Eventually she had to stop her formal education in the 11th grade to focus on helping her family survive. She worked as a tobacco worker, and she babysat for others to earn money while home in Virginia. She left her home in Virginia to relocate to Rhode Island where she worked in a jewelry factory and then New York where she cleaned houses. After traveling to Georgia to marry, she and her husband relocated to Maryland. From that marriage was born a daughter, Terra L. Smithson. For 10 years, she was employed with The Department of Commerce. She retired from The Bureau of Printing and Engraving in 2005. On March 16, 1981 Louise married Charles L. Jones. For 41 years, they enjoyed life together traveling in their motorhome, to many locations. Back to school shopping trips, across country to California (northern states) and back (southern states). She enjoyed playing card games such as pinochle and bid whist. Most exceptionally, she loved her family and enjoyed feeding them. If you ever needed a home cooked meal, she was sure to grant it. She had orders for her sweet potato pies during the holidays coming from as far away as Florida! She was a long-standing member of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, MD. She volunteered her time and talents in the culinary committee where she served thousands who attended services there. Most recently, she virtually attended Resurrection Worship Temple in Clinton, MD. Louise was preceded in death by her parents George Washington Staples, and Ovetta Love Staples, four brothers: John "Jasper" Love, Thomas Love, George "Junny" Staples, and Mitchell "Mickey" Staples. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, husband Charles L. Jones; daughters Terra L. Smithson, Cathy V. Chapman, Kimberly D. Jones; sister Gracie Chase; brother-in-law Raymond Jones (Annie); sister-in-law Carleen James (Douglas), extended family and a host of other relatives and friends. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death (Psalm 68:20) A live stream of the services can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/GPbJI77ZN4A To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Mamie Louise Jones please visit our Sympathy Store.
