In Loving Memory of Marcus Garnett Lockett

Marcus Garnett Lockett passed away suddenly on July 31, 2026, at the age of 51. Born on May 1, 1975, to George and Nellie Lockett. Marcus lived a life defined by warmth, an insatiable curiosity, and a deep, enduring devotion to his family.

Marcus received his early education in Prince George's County, Maryland, where his inquisitive spirit first took root. He continued his formal education at the University of Maryland, College Park. Beyond his academic pursuits, his time at Maryland brought him the greatest gift of his life: meeting his soulmate and the love of his life, Erica Ames.

A passionate fan through thick and thin, Marcus could always be found cheering on his favorite football team (formerly known as the Washington Redskins). He thrived on learning new things and exploring the world around him with an open, inquiring mind, but nothing brought him greater happiness than simply being surrounded by family. To those who knew him best, Marcus was a cherished son, a steadfast little brother, and a wonderful, loving uncle whose presence brought light and laughter to every room.

Marcus’s legacy and memory will be forever cherished by his mother, Nellie Lockett; his brother, Malik (Melissa) Lockett; his beloved nephew, Matthew, and niece, Maya; his loving and faithful fiancée, Erica Ames; and his daughter-in-love, Myah Brown. He also leaves to cherish his memory his great-uncles, Ernest (Ruth) Garnett and Willie George Brown, as well as a wide circle of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Marcus's kindness, gentle nature, and vibrant intellect leave an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
