Mark Evan Clark

January 5, 1957 — November 10, 2025

Mark Evan Clark of Owings, Maryland passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025.

He was born on January 5, 1957 to Evan and Alice Clark. He attended Dover High School in New Hampshire and graduated in 1975. In the late 1970’s, he relocated to Camp Springs, Maryland to attend Prince George’s Community College where his father taught radiology. He took a job as a skate guard/zamboni driver at the Tucker Road Ice Rink, and it is there that he met so many lifelong friends and his wife, Karin. Mark and Karin were married in July of 1986 and enjoyed 39 wonderful years together.

Mark continued his education at the University of Maryland where he played club hockey and completed a degree in Information Systems Management. He retired from the Financial Management Service at the Department of Treasury in Hyattsville, Maryland after 31 years.

He had a passion for the game of ice hockey, which he shared with his sons. Mark led the push to establish the Northern High School Hockey program and coached the team in its early years. He served as a board member of the Maryland Scholastic Hockey League (MSHL) during and after both sons had graduated, as he wanted to continue the growth of new hockey programs. He actively continued his role in coaching for the Montgomery County Fire Hooligans where Mark was a wealth of knowledge for any new players to the game.

Mark was a frequent hockey player on Monday nights in the "Gentleman's League”, returning again to Tucker Road Ice Rink. He never hesitated to give his unsolicited opinion on the ice for better or for worse. While a few of his shots may have missed their targets in his later days of playing, he absolutely loved the camaraderie of the game as a player and coach.

As an avid golfer, he enjoyed playing when the temperatures were above 50℉ on days without rain. His yearly excursion to Shenvalee, VA with his friends from work was what he considered vacation. When he wasn’t relaxing on the golf course, he was frustrated on the golf course. Ending the round with more balls than he started with made him feel better no matter what the score. If he wasn’t on the golf course or at the ice rink, you could find him on the lawnmower or sitting on the porch enjoying some peace and quiet.

His sense of humor will certainly be missed and the stories that we have heard since his passing have shown this to be universal to everyone that knew him. He could discuss any subject with ease, and his company allowed time to pass by unnoticed.

Mark will be remembered for…

  • His gift of extended gab!!!
  • The original pose of “The Mark Clark Lean.”
  • His knack for selecting a card and appropriate (or inappropriate) gift for a loved one.
  • His willingness to meet you anywhere at a moment’s notice.
  • His love for molasses or peanut butter cookies and the famous NH maple rounds.
  • His positive attitude through this journey, “It’s one day at a time.”

He is survived by his wife Karin, his two sons Kyle (Tori), and Eric (Alyssa) and his two most cherished grandchildren, Kenna and Cameron. He enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and loved being their Grandpa/Pah. Mark is also survived by his siblings, Alice (Paul) from Epsom, NH, Janice and John from Dover, NH, and Amy (Scott) from Felton, DE. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
