Mary Arline Smith, age 85, of Clinton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026. Born on September 3, 1940, in Clinton, Maryland, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late George and Evelyn Estep.
Mary was a proud graduate of Surrattsville High School and dedicated her life to her family as a loving stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. She was the heart of her family and found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved.
Mary was the devoted wife of John Wesley Smith. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and enduring love. She was a cherished mother to Michael (Brenda) and Dawn (Brandon), and a proud grandmother to Dan (Alesia), Mike (Angela), Darrin (Haley), Dylan, Kacy, and Andrew. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren who brought immense happiness to her life.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters: James, Martha, Catherine, and Steven. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters George, Susan, Janet, and Jerry.
Mary had a joyful spirit and loved spending time with her sisters, especially traveling and making memories together. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler and proudly bowled with the Forestville Chicks, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Mary will be remembered for her kindness, gentle heart, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with her compassion and devotion.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Mary’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, a cause that was important to her.
Mary will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
