Marylin Sue Varnadore (née Henderson), 91, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, at Home in Holland Point, Maryland surrounded by her family. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Marylin lived a vibrant and accomplished life marked by service, creativity, and deep devotion to her family and community.
Born on March 22, 1934, in Rochester, Indiana, Marylin grew up on a farm where she learned the values of hard work and perseverance. From a youthful age, she contributed to her family's livelihood by working at their family store—an early testament to her industrious spirit.
After graduating from high school in Indiana, Marylin made the bold decision to join the United States Air Force in June 1952. While stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, she met the love of her life, Joe Franklin Varnadore. Their shared journey would span 68 years until Joe’s passing.
Following her military service, Marylin continued to break new ground professionally by joining the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), where she worked designing weather maps. She took great pride in this work and was known for her precision and dedication.
Marylin's passions extended far beyond her professional life. A lifelong lover of music, she played clarinet with the Anne Arundel County Symphonic Orchestra for over 40 years, a remarkable commitment that brought joy to countless audiences. Her love of sports began early; she played baseball both in high school and during her time in the Air Force. She also loved to play golf and played in her 80's as well as many years of boating on the Chesapeake.
Marylin was also known for her warmth and hospitality. For many years, she hosted legendary tailgate parties for the Hogettes at Washington Redskins/Commanders games—events filled with laughter, camaraderie, and delicious food prepared by Marylin herself. Her home was often the center of celebration; friends and family fondly remember the unforgettable gatherings she orchestrated with flair and generosity.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Catherine Bennett, Husband James Bennett; sons David Varnadore and Michael Varnadore; grandchildren Justin Bennett, Wife Jennifer; Patrick Bennett Companion Peggy and Mike Jr. Varnadore; brothers Evert Henderson, Companion Sharon and Jerry Henderson, Wife Beverly; as well as five great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her later years.
Marylin was preceded in death by her husband Joe Franklin Varnadore; sister’s Connie Mikesell; and Shirley Farrell; mother Bernice May Baldwin/Henderson; and Father Clarence Boyd Henderson.
A Visitation will be held at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings MD 20736 on Thursday February 26, 2026, from 5:00pm- 8:00pm. A Funeral service will be held at Lee Funeral Home Calvert the following day, Friday February 27, 2026, at 9:30am with Burial to Follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623 at 11:15am.
Marylin Sue Varnadore’s legacy is one of courage, creativity, service, and love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
