It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maureen Theresa (Cleary) Curtis on March 4, 2026, at the age of 80 in Prince Frederick, Maryland.

She is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Curtis; her children, daughter Maura (McCool) and her husband Steve, son Patrick Curtis Jr. and his wife Debra (Goldman); and her six cherished grandchildren, Kathryn McCool, John McCool, Grace McCool, Nathan Curtis, Nicholas Curtis, and Ella Curtis.

Maureen is also survived by her brothers Jim Cleary and Bob Cleary. She was predeceased by her siblingsLoretta (Groves), Frank Cleary, Richard Cleary, Joseph Cleary, and Patricia (Conway).

Maureen was born on November 24, 1945, in Washington, DC, to George Joseph Cleary Jr. and Anne Zidek. She grew up on a farm in Mitchellville, Maryland. From this family farmhouse, Cleary Lane was later established, where Maureen and Pat raised their family. In 1993, they moved to Calvert County, Maryland, following in the footsteps of several of her siblings. Maureen and Pat later settled in Solomons Island, Maryland, where they made their home. The beautiful surroundings there provided inspiration for many of Maureen's paintings.

After high school, Maureen worked for United Airlines as a flight attendant. After marrying and starting a family, she devoted many years to raising her children before later attending the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned her bachelor's degree in art history. She retired from United Airlines in 1997.

Maureen was passionate about family, art, and travel. She spent much of her free time painting and traveling with her husband, family, and friends. She treasured time with loved ones and always looked forward to gatherings with extended family and friends. Maureen will forever be remembered for her big heart, kindness toward others, wonderful sense of humor, dedication to her church, her creativity as an artist, and her deep love as a mother, grandmother, and wife. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Solomons Island Rescue Squad & Fire Department in Solomons, MD, or that you honor Maureen by showing kindness to others, just as she always did.
