Melvin Frederick Tayman

It is with great sadness that the family of Melvin Frederick “Freddie” Tayman, announces his passing on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on September 21, 1931, in Washington, DC, Freddie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.

Freddie is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ida Mae (Milburn); his parents, Eleanor L. (Stack) and Melvin C. Tayman; his brothers, Ronald C. Tayman, William S. Tayman; and his sister, Nancy L. Conley.

Freddie will be remembered by his children, Brenda Budd (Steve), Steve Tayman (Julie), and Shelli Tayman (Barbara Saunders); granddaughters, Lindsey Budd (Nick Rose) and Brittany Rogers (Adam); great grandsons, Dylan Budd, Nicholas Rose and Patrick Rose, and great granddaughter, Abigail Rogers. Freddie is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Tayman and Sharon Cunningham (Pete).

Freddie served honorably during the Korean War (1952 – 1954) in the United States Navy aboard the most decorated battleship in the US Navy, the USS New Jersey (BB-62), where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (Three Stars), China Service Medal, and United States Service Medal (Three Stars). Immediately following his military service, he became a member of Steamfitters Local 602 where he worked until his retirement in 1996. He was a 59-year member of the Seat Pleasant Masonic Lodge (Patuxent Lodge #218). He enjoyed deer hunting, fox hunting, spending time outdoors maintaining his seven and ½ -acre property, gardening, spending time with his family, eating crabs, and celebrating special occasions.

A public visitation will be held at Lee Funeral Home Calvert on December 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., where friends and family can come to pay their respects and share stories of his life. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 1:00 p.m. that same day. We invite all who knew him to join us in reflecting on the joy he brought into our lives. Freddie will be laid to rest in a ceremony commencing at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery, located at 14300 Saint Thomas Church Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, honoring Freddie’s spirit of caring and compassion.
