Michael Craig Nesky was born to his late parents, Anthony Nesky, Jr. and Betty Nesky, on October 1, 1969 in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Mike was born with Down Syndrome, which presented his family with some unique challenges, but also brought the family some unique joys.
Mike's open and loving personality was evident from the start. He had an infectious, silly sense of humor, and was often the life of the party. His brothers Anthony and John were more than willing to help him express this silliness, to the frequent consternation of their mother. The three brothers shared a childhood filled with laughter.
Michael attended various schools, ultimately graduating from Tanglewood in Clinton. After graduation, he participated in programs at the Hope Center. He then went on to Melwood, where he thrived in their work and community programs. Mike continued his affiliation with Melwood until his passing.
Mike enjoyed time with his family, and loved nothing more than to be surrounded by relatives, taking in their conversations and stories.
As much as Mike loved his entire family, there is absolutely no doubt that his father was his favorite. Mike and his Dad were the light of each other's lives. They shared an unbreakable bond and truly lived for each other. Their connection was so strong that Michael passed less than two months after his father.
Mike was an avid traveler and adventurer. His idea of fun usually involved trains, planes and automobiles. No matter the destination, Mike was ready to go, and if there happened to be a bridge or tunnel along the way, so much the better.
He loved roller coasters, Capitals matches and Nationals games, and slot machines-where he usually won. He loved the annual family Disney cruises, where he wooed the Disney princesses by day, and by night, displayed his surprisingly sophisticated palate when ordering in the dining room.
At home, Mike enjoyed puzzles, arts and crafts, coloring and enjoyed an impressive, carefully-curated collection of movies and music.
Mike is survived by his older brothers Anthony and John; niece Meagan and nephew Nick; great-niece Savannah; great-nephews Arthur, Harrison and Thomas; as well as his cousins, John, Rae Ann, and Mark.
