Nina C. Knight

Our beloved mother, Nina C. Knight, was born on September 20, 1938, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina—a precious gift to the late Thad E. Knight Jr. and Helena Knight. She later moved to Washington, D.C., where she graduated from Margaret Murray Washington High School in 1956. As the eldest of five children, with one sister and three brothers, Nina embraced a lifelong role of love, guidance, and support for her family. The loves of her life were her three children: GiGi, Vicki, and Rickie (Sundae). Nina peacefully departed this life on June 30, 2026.

Nina was a proud and dedicated federal employee who served the United States Government at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for forty-six (46) years before her retirement in November 2012. Her strong work ethic, integrity, and unwavering commitment were among the many qualities that defined her both professionally and personally.

Nina lived a life centered on family, love, and togetherness. She was known for her caring spirit, generous heart, and steadfast dedication to those she loved—always offering support, encouragement, and a listening ear. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her loved ones, whether traveling on family vacations or gathering everyone together for dinners where she lovingly prepared their favorite meals and her famous lemon meringue pie. Her vibrant spirit, radiant smile, and unconditional love touched everyone around her.

An avid bowler, Nina proudly bowled with the Midnight Ramblers Bowling League. She was known for her fierce determination on the lanes and encouraged other family members to join the league and share in the fun. Whether it was league night or a casual game, Nina bowled with passion, enthusiasm, and just a little friendly trash talk. The laughter, fellowship, and unforgettable memories created through bowling reflected the joyful and spirited personality that everyone loved and admired.

Nina was preceded in death by her sister, Mamie L. Washington; her brothers, Thad E. Knight III (Betty Brantley), Alonia Knight (Elaine), and Roland Knight; and her sisters Annabelle Clarke and Bertha Harrison. She was also preceded in death by a host of beloved aunts and uncles whose memories she cherished throughout her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sister-in-law, Peggy Knight; twelve grandchildren: Antoine McDaniel (Terresa), Dante McDaniel (Rasheedah), Stephanie Johnson (Dionte), Tunishia Knight, Bijan Knight, Sedek Knight, Rikki Knight, Xavier Knight, Brendan Knight, Sherrea Knight, Quiana Knight, and James Jones; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Nina’s legacy of love, strength, devotion, and family values will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, wisdom, laughter, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

We feel you're loving every moment, and we know you never went away.
