A Life Well Lived, A Legacy of Love

Norma Brooks Scott, lovingly known as India to her 4 older sisters, was born on October 20, 1932, in Tela, Honduras.

She lived with her aunt Sue until she was 18 years old. Then she moved to La Lima, where she had her first three children. Two of them unfortunately passed away as infants. She later moved to San Pedro Sula, where she had her fourth and last child.

In 1963, in pursuit of a better life for herself and her children, she moved to Miami, Florida with her sister, Louise, leaving her boys in the care of her mother, Hazel. She moved to Washington, D.C. where she met and later married her husband, Thomas (Pops). After the passing of her mother in 1966, she returned to Honduras to retrieve her boys and take them to the U.S. with her. She worked at the Watergate hotel and attended night school where she obtained her nursing assistant degree. After receiving her certificate, she was employed by Sibley Memorial Hospital, where she retired after 29 years of service. She poured care and compassion into everything she did—from tending to her patients to lovingly preparing meals for her family.

She had a gift for cooking, a joyful spirit, and a legendary sense of humor that she passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Norma was a faithful member of her church, where she not only worshiped but also sang joyfully in the choir. Her voice echoed her love for God and filled the sanctuary with praise. Her life was a testament to her faith, grace, and resilience. She was also a proud member of The Divas.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through her sons, Oscar Sr. and Ivan Sr.; her daughter-in-law, Candy; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who will carry her light forward with love, pride and gratitude.

Una vida bien vivida, un legado de amor

Norma Brooks Scott, cariñosamente conocida como India por sus cuatro hermanas mayores, nació el 20 de octubre de 1932 en Tela, Honduras.

Vivió con su tía Sue hasta los 18 años. Luego se mudó a La Lima, donde tuvo a sus tres primeros hijos. Lamentablemente, dos de ellos fallecieron siendo bebés. Más tarde se trasladó a San Pedro Sula, donde tuvo a su cuarto y último hijo.

En 1963, en busca de una vida mejor para ella y sus hijos, se mudó a Miami, Florida junto a su hermana Louise, dejando a sus hijos al cuidado de su madre, Hazel. Luego se trasladó a Washington, D.C., donde conoció y posteriormente se casó con su esposo, Thomas (Pops). Tras el fallecimiento de su madre en 1966, regresó a Honduras para recoger a sus hijos y llevarlos con ella a los Estados Unidos.

Trabajó en el hotel Watergate y asistió a clases nocturnas, donde obtuvo su título como asistente de enfermería. Después de recibir su certificado, fue empleada por el Hospital Sibley Memorial, donde se jubiló tras 29 años de servicio. Puso cuidado y compasión en todo lo que hacía—desde atender a sus pacientes hasta preparar con amor las comidas para su familia.

Tenía un don para la cocina, un espíritu alegre y un sentido del humor legendario que transmitió a sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos.

Norma fue una miembro fiel de su iglesia, donde no solo adoraba, sino que también cantaba con alegría en el coro. Su voz reflejaba su amor por Dios y llenaba el santuario con alabanzas. Su vida fue un testimonio de su fe, gracia y resiliencia. También fue una orgullosa miembro de The Divas.

Deja un legado de amor y fe a través de sus hijos, Oscar Sr. e Ivan Sr.; su nuera, Candy; cinco nietos, doce bisnietos y una gran cantidad de primos, sobrinas y sobrinos que llevarán su luz con amor, orgullo y gratitud.

Un agradecimiento especial a Candy, Janelle, Safiyah y Hamid por ir más allá para asegurar que Norma siempre estuviera cómoda, bien cuidada y, sobre todo, amada. ¡Les agradecemos de corazón!
