Owen Royce Crump

August 26, 1948 — June 29, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Owen Royce Crump, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on June 29, 2025. Owen’s journey began in Idaho, where he was born in 1948, but the warmth of Maryland became his home when he moved there in 1959. It was in Idaho during his time at Idaho State University, that he met the love of his life, Julianne. Owen and Julie married in 1968 and returned to Maryland shortly after, embarking on a beautiful adventure together that would last 57 years.

Owen was a man of firm principle who believed in the value of hard work. He might chuckle at the thought of accepting a free ride, but he was quick to remind us that persistence and determination were the keys to a fulfilling life. His early years as a car mechanic ignited his passion for fixing and building, but his heart truly found it’s calling in law enforcement. As a proud Lieutenant for Prince George’s County Police Department, Owen poured his heart into public safety, embodying a commitment to ensuring a safer world for everyone. His retirement, however, did not mark the end of his service; he spent over a decade continuing his mission with the U.S. Marshal's Service.

Outside of his dedicated career, Owen filled his life with an eclectic variety of passions. Whether it be his deep love for Labrador Retrievers and his “adopted” pit bull grand dogs, taking road trips back to Idaho, reveling in the excitement of muscle cars and NASCAR, or unwinding with a good bourbon or a Diet Cherry Coca Cola on the deck, Owen savored every moment of "simple times" and his spirit found joy in the little things, often losing himself in the rabbit hole of YouTube and always eager to learn something new or share newly learned insights with you.

Owen's legacy will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Julie; his son, Milton Crump (Vicki); his daughter, Alicia Chubb (Chris); his grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan, Megan, and Rachel; and his siblings, Milton Crump, Jr. (Cindy) and Cynthia Jacobs (David). Brothers-in-law Owen Buffaloe (Vicki) and Jim Buffaloe (Ruth) and sisters-in-law, Susy Crump and Barbara Fullmer. Many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins in both Maryland and Idaho. Each of them carries a piece of him in their hearts, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Owen was preceded in death by: His parents Milton Crump Sr., Neva Crump and his younger brother, Ralph.

A memorial gathering will take place on Friday July 18. 2025 beginning at 3:00 PM at Lee Funeral Home Calvert (8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings MD 20736).
