In Loving Memory of Richard Anthony Hickey (“Dickie”)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Anthony Hickey, affectionately known as “Dickie,” of Huntingtown, MD. Richard departed this life on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Calvert Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 82.
Born in Washington, DC to Perry Hickey and Gertrude Bassford Hickey, Richard grew up in District Heights and graduated from Suitland High School in 1961. He dedicated over 30 years of his professional life as a pressman, working under Local 72 union before retiring.
Richard was a familiar face around town, always ready with a smile and a story for friends and acquaintances at places like Wawa, Bowen’s, and Huntingtown 7-11. Known as a social butterfly, he brought warmth and cheer wherever he went. He enjoyed classic cars and regularly attended local car shows, sharing his enthusiasm with others. Richard cherished time spent with his family, both as a loving father and grandfather, and took pride in caring for his yard and being outdoors. He found joy in vacationing at the beach, traveling to the Florida Keys, and cruising with his family. Since the passing of his beloved wife Linda Hickey in 2012, he often spoke fondly of her and missed her dearly.
He is survived by his daughter Deanna (Calvin) Jones and their children Joshua Roy, Alaina Roy, and Andrea Bush; the children of his late daughter Laura May: Clint May, Eddie May (deceased), and Dennis May; his son Alan Hickey and his children Tyler Hickey and Pamela Lauren Minano; his daughter Shannon (Jeff) Wink and their children Jeffrey Wink, Dylan Wink, and Jace Wink; his son Richard Chad (Christina) Hickey and their children Shaylee Hickey and Blake Hickey; and his honorary daughter Lindsey (Richard) Gomes and their children Gabe Gomes and Lily “Bailey” Davis; and 11 great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his siblings James (Ann) Hickey; Donna (Bob) Young; and Larry Hickey; his uncles, Barry Bassford and Donald (Joan) Bassford; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Hickey; his daughter, Laura May; his grandson, Eddie May; his parents, Gertrude Hickey and Perry Hickey; and his brother, Johnny Hickey.
Richard’s memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness, friendship, and love will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he so dearly cherished.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with interment at Southern Memorial Gardens. A repass will be held at O'Gannigan's Irish Pub in Prince Frederick starting at 3pm.
