Richard Ralph Villano

June 27, 1941 — April 10, 2026

Richard Villano, age 84, of Dunkirk, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 10, in the presence of family.

Richard was born on June 27, 1941, in Washington, DC, the son of Alphonso and Rosalie (Ahern) Villano. He grew up in an Irish-Italian family in Washington, DC. As a child, he quickly developed a love for all sports, especially baseball. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Army, served for three years and was honorably discharged. He then spent many decades working in various roles as a route salesman for Wonder Bread, Coca-Cola, Buck Distributing, and the Washington Post.

Richard married Faye (Dixon) Villano in 1963, and they had two children, Rick and Wendy. After moving the family to Dunkirk, MD, Richard devoted much of his time to his family and community. He coached baseball, football and basketball, served on the board of the local Little League, and worked as both an umpire and referee. He was deeply committed to instilling a strong work ethic in Rick and Wendy, teaching them practical, everyday life lessons.

Richard had many passions in life-Notre Dame football, New York Yankees baseball, attending sporting events, and teaching others about the game. But nothing compared to his love for his grandchildren. He beamed with pride at their milestones and accomplishments, cheered them on in all their adventures, and enjoyed visiting them around the country as they grew into adults. He was known for telling jokes, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and for having "friends" everywhere he went.

He is survived by his children, Rick (Terry) Villano and Wendy (Chas) Mazza; his six grandchildren, seven bonus grandchildren; and his sister, Margie (Villano) Croce. He is also survived by many cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

A funeral service to celebrate Richard's life will be held on April 18th at Lee's Funeral Home Calvert, located at 8200 Jennifer Lane in Owings, Maryland 20736. Viewing from 12:00 - 1:30, with a service in the chapel starting at 1:30.

Rest in peace, Dad.
