Robbie L. Lewis was called home and made her heavenly transition on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
She was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi on July 18, 1935, to the late Robert Louie and Sallie Louie.
She was educated during a time of unrest and segregation and graduated from Parrish High School in 1955. She received her Bachelors Degree in Social Science from Jackson State University in 1959.
Robbie was also a member of the Jackson State University Greater Washington DC Alumni Chapter.
Inspired and motivated by the Christian values instilled in her by her parents at an early age, she was baptized at Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church in Hazlehurst, Mississippi.
She met the love of her life, Mr. Carrol G. Lewis in Denver, Colorado and were joined in marriage on July 25, 1968. This union was blessed with two children, Carroll A. Lewis, and Theresa J. Lewis.
Robbie worked as a Librarian and a Teacher in Mississippi and Georgia. As a military wife, travelling the world with her husband, she left her job outside the home and devoted her life supported her husband and raising her children. When her husband retired from the United States Air Force in 1976 in Washington, DC, they decided to stay in the DC Area. They settled in Fort Washington, Maryland to raise their family. She loved the idea of living in a neighborhood where the families were tight knit, and the neighbors had your back. She loved her neighbors and the Apple Grove community. She left indelible impact on her neighbors specifically the neighbors on Winnsboro Drive.
Robbie had a profound love for landscaping and all things flowers and plants. She believed that curb appeal enhances a home value and a method of self-care being one with the earth. She would spend a lot of her time outside in the yard and shopping at Home Depot buying more flowers and supplies to stockpile in the garage. She was always so proud to share her knowledge with her daughter and her neighbors.
Robbie was the oldest of five sisters which all preceded her in death, Lillian Louie, Modell Louie - Sanders, Irene Louie - Brown, and Mary Louie - Collins.
Robbie will be affectionately remembered by her children, Carrol A. Lewis (Gitania) and Theresa Lewis, nieces and nephews, Sonyia Kidd (Hattiesburg, Mississippi), Nicole Collins Pharr, Carlos Collins and Marcelis Collins (Flint, Michigan), Laettar Brown and Zopalla Brown (Newport News, Virginia), Andre Louie (Jackson, Mississippi), Stephan Sanders, Donald Sanders, Karen Sanders, and Shaundra Sanders (Hazlehurst, Mississippi). The following niece and nephews preceded her in death, Latanya Renee Louie,
Rickey Louie, Ronald Sanders and James Collins. Robbie will also be remembered by her cousins, friends, neighbors, Jackson State Alumni, and the loving staff at Hannah’s Heart Assisted Living.
