Robert James Link, affectionately known to all as "Butch," passed away last Thursday, surrounded by the family he so deeply loved.
Born on August 3, 1948, in Pearisburg, Virginia, Butch grew up to become a hardworking and dedicated man. He graduated from Southern High School in Anne Arundel County in 1968. For many years, he was a proud union pipefitter with Local 602, known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his trade. He was married twice in his life, including to Deborah Link in 1970.
Above all else, Butch was a profoundly kind man whose greatest joy was his family. He loved his children and grandchildren beyond measure and was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "Poppop." When he wasn't spending time with his loved ones, Butch could usually be found enjoying the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, loved shooting his guns, and always found peace being outdoors.
He leaves behind a beautiful legacy and is survived by his two sons, Robert Link and his wife Kathy, and Daniel Link and his wife Rachel; three daughters, Heather Grey and her husband Dennis, Juliet Stanton, and Sarina Johnson and her husband Alan; fifteen grandchildren, Robert, Massey, Audrey, Camille, Karl, Sadie, Daniel, Denver, Aaron, Gabrielle, Wyatt, Payton, Hannah, Cash, and Simone; and his great-grandchildren, Grayson, Leyla, Brooks, Oaklynn, and Finley.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, April Link; his sister, Wanda Noel; and his brother, Wayne Link.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Butch on October 16, 2026. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Lee Funeral Home in Owings, Maryland. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place at 1:00 PM at Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Butch's memory to Calvert Hospice.
