Robert Paul Moeller, 79, of Dunkirk, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026. Born on January 26, 1947, Robert lived a life defined by service, intelligence, faith, strength, and devotion to his family.
Robert shared 40 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marie D. Moeller. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and lasting memories. He is also survived by his children, Charles Moeller, Amanda Moeller, and Robert Moeller; and his cherished grandchildren, James, Jamal, Devon, Bianca, and Lily Moeller.
For more than 30 years, Robert served as a Research Physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory, specializing in the field of fiber optics. His work reflected the brilliant and curious mind that defined so much of his life. Robert earned his Master’s Degree in Physics from John Carroll University, an accomplishment that helped pave the way for a distinguished career in scientific research and innovation.
During his career, Robert was credited with 14 patents, and the groundbreaking research conducted by him and his team helped pave the way for advancements in fiber optics technology that continue to benefit people around the world today. His contributions to science and technology stand as part of a lasting legacy that reached far beyond his community and family.
He also proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Army, carrying a deep sense of honor and dedication throughout his years of service.
Robert was a man who loved the outdoors and life’s simple joys. He enjoyed bike rides, camping, sail boating with his family, electronics, and spending time with the people he loved most. His family remembers his incredible energy and determination — no matter how strong others became, Robert could still out-bike them anytime and anywhere. He also enjoyed relaxing with episodes of Star Trek, a bag of pretzels, and a cold Mug Root Beer close at hand.
A devoted Roman Catholic, Robert believed strongly in helping others and giving back to his community whenever he could. Above all else, he valued family, kindness, integrity, and perseverance.
Robert will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, veteran, scientist, mentor, and friend. Though deeply missed here on earth, his family takes comfort in knowing his spirit lives on in Heaven and in the countless memories he leaves behind. His life was one worth celebrating, and his legacy of strength, intelligence, faith, and love will continue through all who knew him.
Public Viewing will be held Thursday May 14, 2026 from 5 to 7pm at Lee Funeral Home Calvert 8200 Jennifer Lane Owings MD 20746. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of the remarkable man Robert was and will always be in the hearts of those who loved him. The Mass will be held at 12 noon on May,15 2026 at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church 1601 West Mount Harmony Rd Owings, MD 20736 followed by the procession to Resurrection Cemetery 8000 Woodyard Rd Clinton, MD 20735 at 1:30pm.
