Roger Wayne Midgette

November 4, 1943 — May 29, 2026

Roger Wayne Midgette was born in Newport News VA to Lether Pearl Midgette and Garland Kitchen Midgette. His father died in a house fire when Roger was five. His mother married Raymond Floyd Lumpkin years later. Roger joined the army in 1964 and served in the Air Defense Artillery in Germany, Okinawa, El Paso TX, Buffalo NY, Washington DC and Hawaii, until retirement in 1984, attaining the rank of First Sergeant. He married Martha Morris Midgette in 1977 and they settled in 1991 in Accokeek MD. In Accokeek they fixed up an old home and invited both sets of parents to join them in living there together. After retiring from the army Roger worked as a Community Manager for 30 years. He served in all board positions on the Greater Accokeek Civic Association (GACA) for over 30 years. He was Committee Chair for Night Out Against Crime, Chairman for the Free Table, and energetic participant in the semi-annual Highway 210 Cleanup. Roger was also Board President of Jamestown Estates for over 25 years. Roger was always generous with his time, energy and money. He brought his calm presence, diligence, sense of process, fairness and inclusiveness to everything he did at GACA and elsewhere. He was chosen GACA Citizen of the Year in 2018.

Services for Roger will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
