Roy Edward Bowden

Roy Edward Bowden was born on December 25, 1947, to the late Mary and Clarence Bowden. He was educated in the Catholic schools in his early years and graduated from Bell Vocational High School, where he proudly played football. After high school, Roy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge.

Roy began his career in public safety as a Correctional Officer for the District of Columbia Corrections. This became the foundation for a lifelong commitment to law enforcement. He went on to serve as an Immigration Officer with the Department of Justice and later joined the U.S. Department of State as a Physical Security Specialist. His work allowed him to travel the world, including time stationed in Oahu, Hawaii, supporting the naval bases there. Roy retired from the State Department after a distinguished and dedicated career.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lendora Olether Bowden; his parents Mary and Clarence Bowden; his sisters Mary (Octavia) Taylor and Donna Bowden; his brother John Edward Bowden; and his children Sheril and Kevin Bowden.

Roy leaves to cherish his memories his children LaSharn Katrina, Dwayne and Roy Devaughan Bowden (Bj); his siblings Samuel Banner (Senovia), Paulette White (Wiley); his brothers‑in‑law Anthony (Lois), John (Pat) and Titus Lawrence (Calandria); and sisters‑in‑law Erlene and Gwendolyn Lawrence; grandchildren, Jocelyn, Byshop Bowden, Zackery Janey, Deandre Bowden, Jasmin Bowden‑Jarnigan, Ayden Bowden, Diamond Tramun‑Bowden, Mahogany Carey, Jaxx, Joshua Bowden, and Kyndal Waters, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great‑nephews, and great‑nieces.

Heartfelt Closing Message Roy’s life was one of service, strength, and quiet compassion. He touched the lives of many with his dedication, loyalty, and the love he cared for his family. Though he is no longer with us, the impact of his journey remains—woven into the hearts of those who knew him. May his memory continue to inspire us, comfort us, and remind us of the goodness he brought into the world. We honor him today and always with gratitude for a life well lived and deeply loved.
