On August 6, 2023, Samuel Joseph Galante suddenly passed away. Sam was born to Alexander Carino and Marie Terese (nee Darr) Galante. He was the second child of six in a family of eight. The family was a very large one and their home was a happy place to grow up. After he graduated from Mackin Catholic High School, Sam entertained a career in Mortuary Science while studying at Michigan State University but ended up finding that his true calling with the US Army as a Medical Specialist. Through the training he received in the Army, he ultimately became a Urology Technician at Ft. Belvoir. His heart was captured before graduating high school when he met the woman he would eventually marry, LTC Christine M. Dinnis, RN, PhD. They married on June 18, 1972, at St. Francis Xavier in Washington, DC. After 24 years serving his country proudly, he retired from service and the reserves. By this time, Sam and Christine had settled into life in Huntingtown, MD. He enjoyed spending time at the American Legion and being in the Knights of Columbus. Sam also discovered a hobby in woodworking.
Sam was preceded in death by his cherished wife, LTC Christine M. Galante and his parents. His legacy of love is carried on by his siblings, Diane Marie Reilly, Mary Catherine Galante, John Thomas Galante, Antoinette “Toni” Galante Benton, and Robert Alexander Galante. He also leaves countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm where a Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will in held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
