Shawn David Dockstader

Shawn David Dockstader, 50, of Canton, NC, formerly of Lusby, MD, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on April 28, 2026. Shawn was born in Schenectady, NY, on February 13, 1976, to Garth and Mary Dockstader.

Shawn grew up in Wappingers Falls, NY, before moving to Southern Maryland at 13. He quickly built a huge extended family of friends who supported him through high school and beyond. Most weekends, you could find the whole crew at a local shopping center with their low-riders, sports cars, and bikes, or gathered at Shawn’s parents’ house, where he was often in the garage painting someone’s vehicle.

After graduating from Calvert High School in 1995, Shawn began his autobody career, quickly excelling and taking great pride in his work. He eventually opened his own shop. A true car, truck, and bike enthusiast, he loved car shows and racing at the track. Above all, Shawn enjoyed spending time with his children and watching them play sports. Shawn moved to Charlotte, NC, in 2013, and later settled in Canton, NC.

Shawn is survived by his parents, Garth and Mary Dockstader; children, Skyler (Kayla), Summer, Tanner, Devin, and Tristin Dockstader; grandchildren, Celeste and Dylan Dockstader; siblings, Heather Bowersox, Garth Dockstader, Todd Dockstader, Jolyn Dockstader, and Cynthia Dockstader. Shawn was also surrounded throughout his life by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, who loved him deeply and supported him. Shawn is predeceased by his grandparents, Donald and Elisabeth Dockstader and Walter Sr. and Marion Stepnowski.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with a Memorial Service at 6:00 pm at Our Father’s House Assembly of God, 45020 Patuxent Beach Road, California, MD 20619.
