Sherry Jean Flowers Dozier passed away peacefully September 8, 2022, with her family by her side, in Lanham, MD. She was 77 years old.
Sherry was born May 10, 1945 in Atmore, AL to the late Eula Mae Flowers Cruit. She grew up in Bay Minette, AL and graduated from Baldwin County High School in 1963. Sherry was the beloved wife of the late Wallace David Dozier, and they resided in Upper Marlboro, MD. Their loving marriage lasted 56 years.
From the 1970s throughout the 1980s, Sherry worked in typesetting and graphic design. She entered the industry at a time when it was male-dominated, yet she persevered through obstacles that women often experienced in the workforce. Her persistence over the years has served as a role model for her three daughters.
Sherry was an expert in gardening and cooking. She preferred to cook from scratch—everything from baked goods to gourmet meals. Her recipe collection includes rare cookbooks passed down from her grandmother. Sherry also enjoyed carrying on the family’s tradition of watching and attending college football games for the Alabama Crimson Tide. For many years, Sherry enjoyed taking road trips with her husband and visiting children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren living throughout the Gulf Coast area.
Sherry is survived by her children: Angela Dewberry (Robbie Dewberry) (Bay Minette, AL); Theresa Dozier (Upper Marlboro, MD); and Catherine Hunt (Curt Hunt) (Daphne, AL). Her grandchildren are Joseph Ganey (Santana Ganey) (AL) and Zachary Ganey (Erin Ganey) (AL), and her great-grandchildren include Payton, Drake, Kamdon, Tukker, Riley, Autumn, Chase, Chloe, Cadi, and Leo (AL). Sherry is also survived by additional relatives located in Alabama.
