Sonia H Grushka

Sonia Helen Grushka, 93 of Lenior, North Carolina passed away on Feb 24, 2024. She

was born on July 2, 1930, in Layland, West Virginia to Mike and Nellie Romage.

Sonia met her husband, Joe, while attending her brother’s wedding. They were married

three months later. She was a dedicated Air Force wife creating a loving home for her

husband and three daughters wherever they were stationed. After two overseas tours

and six different states they left military service and settled in Maryland. Sonia returned

to work and later retired from the C & P  Telephone Company. In retirement, she enjoyed

reading, bowling, and traveling. She was a huge fan of the Baltimore Orioles and would

often arrange her day around their playing schedule. She also enjoyed bird watching,

especially hummingbirds which kept her busy filling their feeders.

In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe and five

siblings.

Sonia is survived by her daughters, Debbie Smith (Jim), Iris Wyvill (Raphael) Lisa

Gentry (Bill) her grandchildren Jimmy Smith (Amber) Stephanie Conkling (Chad)

Rebecca Tomberlin (James) Melissa Wyvill, Brandon Gentry, Joe Gentry (Jenna),

eleven great grandchildren, her brother Herbert Romage, and her sisters Linda

Palmore, and Elizabeth (Libbie) Romage as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
