It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Michael Merillat, 83, of Solomons, Maryland, who departed this life on February 4, 2026. Born on July 13, 1942, in Washington, D.C., Stephen was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Stephen, a committed business owner in the pool industry, founded and operated Merillat Pools & Aqua Maintenance located in Owings, Maryland in 1976, for over 50 years he dedicated his skills and passion to serving the Southern Maryland community. Stephen also founded and operated Metropolitan Containers and served his many clients for over 30 years.
Stephen, a man of faith and purpose, enjoyed finding solace while fishing with his grandson Denver while sharing his wisdom. Stephen enjoyed watching his granddaughter's Aspen and Brooke excel in soccer and academics. In addition, Stephen has many treasured friends and memories from the years spent wintering in Florida. He also enjoyed Sunday Mass with family, playing cards, golfing, boating, and just being a part of nature. He truly embraced every day and everyone he encountered, every day was an adventure for him.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Darla Merillat, He is also survived by his sons, Richard Merillat and Kevin Merillat. Stephen's memory will forever be cherished by his daughter in law Amanda Merillat, and grandchildren: Denver Merillat, Aspen Merillat, and Brooke Merillat, who brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
Stephen was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Merillat, Mother, Olivia Merillat. Brother's, Robert Merillat, Jr., and Christopher Merillat. Sister, Suzanne Kress.

As we reflect on the life of Stephen Michael Merillat, we remember a man whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Stephen's funeral service will be held on May 1, 2026, at 11 am (Stephen and Darla's Wedding Anniversary) at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located in Solomons, Maryland (Historic Church)
