Steven Paul Gibson

Steve Gibson, 73, passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2026. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing he lived a life filled with faith, laughter, friendship, adventure, and above all, love. More than anything, Steve was a loving and devoted family man. He was a proud father to his daughter, Brittany; a cherished Pop Pop to his grandchildren; and a beloved brother to his siblings.

Steve was a proud retired Prince George’s County Police Officer #685, dedicating many years to serving and protecting his community. He carried that same sense of integrity, loyalty, and dedication throughout every aspect of his life. Steve possessed an extraordinary depth of knowledge and a lifelong love of learning. No matter the topic, he was always researching, discovering, and happily passing what he knew on to anyone willing to listen.

Steve never met a stranger. With his unmistakable announcer-like voice, love of conversation, passion for teaching others, witty sense of humor, and genuine kindness, he had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went. He formed lifelong friendships wherever life took him, leaving behind countless dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. To know Steve was to have a friend for life. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel like family, and many were proud to call him their brother and best friend.

Steve lived with gratitude and embraced life with a pure heart. He loved traveling and exploring both new and familiar places, especially his beloved Florida and Indiana, while Disney World always held a special place in his heart. He proudly served as his family’s and friends’ master itinerary planner, making sure no vacation missed a single detail or a moment to rest. He faithfully cheered on the Baltimore Orioles, loved full crabs, appreciated a good Mai Tai, and was everyone’s favorite casino mentor, road trip companion, and storyteller. He was everyone’s accountant and tax preparer, could budget down to the penny (a true art form), fix any computer, and was always eager to research, solve, and explain just about anything. His extraordinary mind was matched only by his boundless curiosity, and his love of learning never stopped inspiring those around him.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and MaryJane Gibson. He is survived by his daughter, Brittany; grandchildren, Cassidy, Chloe, Delaney, and Dallas; sister, Barbara (Wes); brother, Rick (Jan), many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless treasured friends whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the incredible hospice team and home health aides whose kindness, dignity, exceptional care brought comfort to Steve and his loved ones during his final days.

In accordance with Steve’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with family and friends.

Steve’s legacy is not measured by the years he lived, but by the lives he touched. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and friends, his unmistakable voice, infectious humor, generous heart, and the countless memories and experiences he created for those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but the love he gave and the joy he brought to others will live on forever.
