Susan Jean Shettle

June 29, 1949 — March 16, 2026

Susan J. Shettle, 76, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026.

Born on June 29, 1949, in Washington, D.C., Susan was the beloved daughter of the late Rudolph Henry Naber and Neidra Ladine Naber. She lived a life rooted in love, curiosity, and quiet devotion to her family.

Susan shared a remarkable 50-year journey of love and partnership with her devoted husband, Russell D.C. Shettle. Together, they built a life centered on family, resilience, and enduring commitment.

She was a loving and dedicated mother to John Shettle, Kimberly Kiser, James Gardner, and Robert Gardner, and a proud grandmother to Ethan Shettle. She is also survived by her dear sister, Bonnie Dreos. Susan’s family was the heart of her world, and she took great pride in nurturing and supporting those she loved.

Throughout her life, Susan embraced both her role as a homemaker and her work outside the home. Early in her career, she worked at a nursing home in Clinton and at the Andrews Skeet and Trap Club. Her compassion and dedication to others were evident in all she did. In recognition of her character and service, she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Air Force on March 1, 1995, honoring her unselfish, faithful, and devoted service.

Susan had a deep appreciation for life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved adventure and exploration, particularly visiting U.S. Civil War historical sites, museums, and antique shops. She found joy in lighthouses, jigsaw puzzles, and classic movies and television shows. A creative spirit, Susan also enjoyed drawing floor plans and had a special fondness for cats.

Those who knew Susan will remember her as thoughtful, inquisitive, and quietly strong—a woman whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susan’s life at Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, MD. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Susan’s legacy of love, devotion, and gentle strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
