Sylvia Shannon

June 22, 1942 — August 25, 2025

Sylvia Ann Shannon, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on August 25, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 22, 1942, to Ernesto Magpayo and Leonarda Crisostomo, Sylvia lived a life filled with resilience, compassion, and deep devotion to her family.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Michael Shannon, with whom she shared a life of enduring partnership and love for over fifty years. She also mourned the loss of her son, William Scot Shannon, her grandson, Ryan L. Hammett, and her dear sister Mary Lou Moslman. Through life's many trials, Sylvia remained a pillar of strength and grace.

She is survived by her cherished daughter Tamra "Tami" Shannon Hammett and her husband Russell, as well as her treasured grandchildren: Russell "Rusty" L. Hammett (Kristen) and a legacy of great-grandchildren who brought endless joy to her days. Sylvia also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Mickey McGee (Shelly), Marc McGee (Sandy), Kim McGee, Mata McGee, and Monatte McGee, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved her dearly.

A graduate of high school, Sylvia built a long and respected career as a Housing Manager at Andrews Air Force Base, where her dedication and work ethic touched countless lives. In retirement, she found joy in life's simple pleasures and treasured pastimes. She loved a good slot machine, never turned down a game of Scrabble or Upwords, and found great peace in sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and needlepoint. Her hands were rarely still-always busy creating, comforting, or cooking a favorite family recipe. She had a sharp mind for puzzles and a heart wide open to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives she enriched beyond measure.

Sylvia's love was generous, her humor quick, and her presence a source of steady comfort. She was the heart of her family-fiercely proud of her roots and fiercely protective of those she loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Sylvia's memory to Georgetown Hospital's Lombardi Cancer Center or Hospice of The Chesapeake, organizations that provided care, compassion, and dignity throughout her final journey.

Her legacy of love, laughter, and quiet strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
