Theresa May Stormer

March 29, 1935 — April 3, 2026

Theresa May Stormer, 91, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by devotion, generosity, and unwavering love for her family.

Born March 29, 1935, in Leeland, Maryland, she was one of nine children to the late Joseph Greenbury and Blanche Walker Sweeney.

May graduated from Frederick Sasscer High School in 1953. After graduating, May was a clerk typist for the Prince George's County Board of Education.

In 1957, she married her husband, Kenneth. When they started a family, May stayed home and raised her four daughters. May took a course at LeReine High School to be qualified as a CCD teacher at Holy Family Church in Woodmore. She taught first and second graders there for seven years. In 1974, she started working at JC Penney before starting her working career in Upper Marlboro for Prince George's County Federal Credit Union and then the Office of Finance until her retirement in 2000.

Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, playing the organ, sewing, ceramics, reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, cross stitch and needlepoint. She crocheted baby blankets and stitched needlepoint heirlooms for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and those will be forever cherished.

May was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Greenbury and Blanche Sweeney; her sisters, Margaret, Marian, and Lucy Sweeney, Barbara Jean Poff, Janice Fitzgerald, Eileen Campos; her brothers, John Everett and Joseph "Mack" Sweeney; and her son-in-law, John Michael Carrier.

May is survived by her husband of 68 years, Kenneth; daughters, Theresa Carrier, Cheryl (Michael) Soresi, Charlene (Christopher) Amorose, and Beverly (Jay) Frye; 10 grandchildren Erica (Jonathan) Wright, Brian (Amanda) Palmer, Michele Soresi, Daniel (Yanin) Soresi, Megan (Jeremy) Lawrence, Christopher Amorose, Amanda (Tom) Corcoran, Jesse (Dana)

Frye, Jeffrey Carrier, and Nicholas Soresi; and 11 great-grandchildren.

May was the matriarch of her family. Her love and legacy will live on. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
