Theron Virgil “Buddy” Hillis Jr., 74 of Lothian, Maryland passed away on June 15, 2024 following a fall. He was born on August 21, 1949 in Washington, DC to the late Theron Hillis Sr. and Evelyn Hillis.
He attended Redeemer Lutheran School in Hyattsville, Maryland and attended Northwestern High School in Hyattsville as well. He served in the United States Army for 3 years in Germany and the DMZ in Korea. After the war, he became a Union carpenter and has since received his 50-year pin. He was married to his wife Virginia for 50 years and lived in their home in Lothian for 48 years. The reason he stayed so long in Lothian was because he was surrounded by wonderful neighbors.
Buddy is survived by his wife Virginia, his son Richard (Rachel) and daughter Pam; his grandchildren Veronica, Michael, Jonathan, Jessica, Miranda; his great-grandchildren Jude, Gabriel, Declan, Brandon, Alexander and Lennon; his sister Lorraine (Nick) and six nephews.
Buddy always had a soft spot for furry friends treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were. He will be sorely missed by his loving dog Stella.
Buddy and his friends were practically inseparable throughout their lives. He still enjoyed having lunch with his childhood friends and breakfast with his carpenter buddies.
Everyone who knew Buddy, knew how much he enjoyed collecting coins that started back when he was a child. He still looked forward to the new coin catalogs the Mint released. He also enjoyed driving Ms. Daisy.
